About Me

Hey! I’m Rachel and I started Rachel Going Places as a way to collect my travels and as an outlet to improve my writing skills. I’ve always loved to travel and explore new destinations; I grew up as a military brat with my dad in the Air Force. We moved all across the U.S., Virginia, Alabama, back to Virginia, then North Dakota, Rhode Island, California for 5 years but 3 different houses, Colorado, South Carolina, and now Indiana for college.

My passion for travel has led me to pursue a career in travel and tourism. I study Hospitality and Tourism Management with a concentration in Sales and Marketing and a minor in German at Purdue University. I have always been fascinated by international cultures and foreign languages. I have studied French, Spanish, German, and hope to learn Russian as well!

A little bit more about me since you’ve read this far: I’ve been to all 50 states and 9 countries (United States, Canada, the Bahamas, England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Austria). Aside from travel I enjoy reading dystopian novels (Biography of X by Catherine Lacey is my current fav), listening to oldies rock/metal/punk music from the 1950s-1990s (The Misfits, Rammstein, Depeche Mode, Def Leppard, and Scorpions are always on repeat), and finding the perfect café for strong cup of coffee (fun fact: my first job was as a barista!).

I hope you find we have some things in common, and if not, I hope you are interested in a new perspective!

Thanks for reading! :)
